“for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:11b-13 (KJV)
There once was a woman who awoke at 5:00am and made her a cup of coffee. Like usual for the past 15 years, she sat to have her daily devotional and prayer. Her alarm as typical rang out at 6:30, but this day was far from ordinary. She had no husband to kiss good morning, kids to awake, or lunch to pack. See this woman on a Monday afternoon received a call that changed the course of her life for the rest of her life. She buried two beautiful girls and the love of her life. She had cried until there were no more tears to cry.
But today was different as she finally pulled herself up out of bed and began her daily routine. She purposed in her mind she would surrender her pain and push through the day with a hope she held on to for dear life. Her hope rested on eternal life and seeing her loved ones once again some day.
She prayed this prayer while she lifted her hands, breathing deeply within, and with a sincere heart said “ God I can’t erase the events of yesterday, or heal this deep pain within, but Lord I choose on today to see the gifts of today and to let you do the rest. God I just thank you for today.”
Paul was commanded with the many difficulties he faced to be content in whatever state he met, and he was dealt many of hard times. In spite of it all Paul like this woman learned the secret to pressing on and seeing the gifts of the day.
Will you let the commandment Paul was given rest in your heart today?
We are commissioned to lead souls to Christ and as we live our lives rested in the hope of eternal life. We hope to see the souls we have reached and the family and friends who were called home before us once again. No one said it would be easy but we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
